The Nine - Yellow Stripe
The nine begins the striped half of the numbered set, carrying a broad yellow band around a white body. It is the striped counterpart to the solid yellow one ball, though the resemblance ends there.
In eight-ball, The Nine is simply the first of the highs. Elsewhere it gets to be the star: in nine-ball it is the game-winning ball, sometimes called the money ball or, in pool-room slang, the cheese. The Nine tries not to bring this up during eight-ball, but it knows its value.
